Exxon Mobil Arkutun-Dagi Project
In a remarkable engineering feat, a Crossflon® Skidway System was instrumental in the successful load-out of the Arkutun-Dagi platform’s topside, a colossal structure weighing 47,830 tonnes, including a 5,135-tonne deck support frame. This operation set a new world record for the heaviest load-out ever accomplished.
Offshore Energy
The Arkutun-Dagi field, part of the Sakhalin-1 project off Russia’s east coast, required the installation of the Berkut platform, the largest offshore platform of its kind in Russia. The platform’s topside alone weighs approximately 42,000 tonnes and includes essential facilities such as drilling rigs, processing units, living quarters, and a helipad.
Offshore Technology
The load-out process was executed by ALE Heavylift, utilising their Mega Jack system to jack up the topside to a height of 24 metres. The topside was then skidded onto a barge for transportation to its offshore location.
Mammoet
The Crossflon® Skidway System, developed by Beldam Crossley, played a pivotal role in this operation. Designed to facilitate the skidding of heavy structures, the system comprises Crossflon® skidway plates, Crossflon® XF500 lubricant, and Crossflon® XF100 membrane. This combination ensures a low coefficient of friction, enabling the smooth movement of massive loads.
The successful load-out of the Arkutun-Dagi topside underscores the effectiveness of the Crossflon® Skidway System in handling some of the world’s most challenging heavy-lift operations. This achievement not only highlights the system’s capabilities but also sets a new benchmark in the field of heavy load-out operations.
